Abstract:This paper constructed and measured the globalization participation degree and participation basis index of 142 countries or regions in the world from 2000 to 2020 from economic, social, and political dimensions and used the globalization barometer model to analyze the globalization trend. The findings show that: (1) Under the pandemic shock, the globalization participation degree and participation basis in 2020 were below the trend. Among them, the economic and political dimensions were the main factors dragging down the globalization participation level, while the social participation level was bucking the trend; the economic, social, and political dimensions all contributed negatively to the globalization participation basis level. (2) There are differences in participation degree and participation basis of globalization among different regions/countries. (3) China’s globalization participation and participation base are both above the median. But its participation ranking is higher than the participation basis, which implies its development is unbalanced. The research in this paper can provide a solid theoretical foundation for China to formulate and improve its policies related to opening up and reform.
