Abstract:Pesticide shopkeepers have become the main source of technical information on pesticide use to farmers. At the same time of pesticide sales, the technical information provided by pesticide shopkeepers to farmers not only involves whether farmers make pesticide correct-use, but also relates to the safety of agricultural products and environmental benefits. Based on the analysis of random survey data of pesticide shopkeepers, this paper studied the difference between pesticide recommendation and their own pesticide use of village shopkeepers with dual identities of pesticide sellers and pesticide users. On the basis of controlling individual characteristics of pesticide shopkeepers, pesticide sales behaviors of pesticide shopkeepers are studied. The results not only proved once again that pesticide shopkeepers did recommend pesticides overuse to farmers, a profit driven sales behavior. More importantly, it is found that whether pesticide shopkeepers provide pesticide correct-use to farmers is mainly determined by their knowledge level of pesticide. Based on the above findings, the study put forward corresponding policy suggests, such as strengthening the technical training of pesticide shopkeepers.
