Abstract:Against the backdrop of rapid urbanization and accelerated population mobility, the social identity of new residents has become an important issue in grassroots governance. Taking three types of communities in Jiaxing as cases, this study employs the “context-actor-action” framework to identify three pathways through which the Five-Society Linkage facilitates the formation of social identity among new residents: the digital collaborative pathway, the organizational integration pathway, and the self-governance-driven pathway. The findings show that differences among these pathways stem from variations in the intensity of institutional pressures and in the strategic resources possessed by key actors, and reflect the nested structure of co-production in the Chinese context.
