Abstract:Since its accession to WTO, China has witnessed a deploring fact that its local manufactured products are frequently blocked from export by foreign technical barriers, for a simple reason: not in conformity with the required standards. This article discusses, based on the rules of standardization and local industries settings, approaches to improve the market competitiveness of local manufactured products, using the successful standardization practices of the tie making industry in Shengzhou, Zhejiang Province as an example. Authors propose a standardization line for local products: setting up a local industrial standardization system, and introducing advanced international standards.
