Abstract:Based on the credible data from International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV), the current basic pattern in plant variety protection (PVP) is systematically analyzed from the following five aspects: the total number of PVP grants and its growth trends, the distribution of PVP grants in one's own country and in foreign countries, the structure of the granted various plant varieties, the proportion of PVP grants possessed by the top 10 global seed giants, and the status of PVP in China during the course of meeting with international PVP. Furthermore, the impacts of the pattern on enterprise management of seed industry and new plant variety breeding are examined. Some policy suggestions are also proposed in the paper on effectively establishing the system of PVP in our country.
