Abstract:This paper analyzes the generalization, heterogeneity and effectiveness of location decision of FDI, using a database of 3570 manufacturing foreign-invested enterprises (FIE) in Jiangsu. The empirical findings indicate that FDI flows to the regions that have a larger economic scale, a higher level of urbanization, a complete infrastructure, and have the cheaper labor cost, the preferential policy, a higher level of marketization and FIEs agglomeration. FDI that has comparative poor competition ability is more likely to choose the regions and cities with cheaper labor cost, more preferential policy and higher agglomeration. In general, location choice of FDI is consistent and effective. Based on the findings above, this paper presents the corresponding policy suggestions.
