Schumpeter held that the monopoly benefits the realization of innovation. This hypothesis has exerted great influence on the economists and policy - makers. This paper attempts to go over the theory, introduce the major achievements in relevant empirical verification and test it with the data of Chinese industries. As the study shows, the competition, not monopoly, will be beneficial to innovations.
