The basic research in the US originally was closely connected with defense.Therefore,it is significant to stud- y the basic research in the US defense system,especially to study the funding of basic research,namely the externalized policy and management results.The paper analyzes the features of the USA's defense basic research funding and man- agement.It is expected to be of positive implications for China's basic research management.
