In recent years,China's government has emphasized public goods investment in pursuit of rural development and poverty reduction in rural areas.However,whether the provision of public goods responds to local people's demand remains controversial.With a follow-up survey of 101 villages in 5 provinces,this paper describes the demand for five types of infrastructures investment reported by local people and the following public investment activities at village level.The data shows that project implementations for irrigation facilities and drinking water facilities at village level respond to local people's demand;although roads are mostly wanted by farmers and most of projects and money are used for building roads,there is no significant correlation between whether local people ranked road the first place and whether the village implemented a road project in the following years.
