More and more universities involve themselves in interdisciplinary research(IR) and teaching.This article discusses the drivers and obstacles of IR,and analyses the tactics that are used to support IR,such as establishing office for IR at central administration,building matrix organizational structure,and/or accepting extensive growth strategies.The authors also argue that 1) "small" science should has its own space,2) more research facilities are needed to stimulate interactions among professors and students,3) set a priority to establishing interdisciplinary PHD.programs.
